Between humor and grace began as a satirical piece, rooted in my own feelings of not measuring up to society's standards of beauty. As I delved deeper into the creation of this figure, with its blonde hair and ample breasts, I started to see myself in it and felt a growing sense of empathy. This led me to create a transformative work that not only explored my own features, but also womanhood in its various forms, across different races.
Through conversations with women around me, I delved deeper into the satirical and abundant nature of a woman's body, regardless of race. The universal struggles of not feeling blonde enough, curvy enough, skinny enough, and so on, were brought to the forefront.
As an artist, I am grateful for the chance to examine these insecurities and find peace and acceptance through my art. Turning our deepest fears and vulnerabilities into a work of art is truly a blessing.

This work reflects on the layered life of the nike symbol—
a name drawn from the greeks and defined as Victory, and later a form shaped by conquest through the Cortez,
and over time an object embraced over time by Latin and Mexican American communities.
Rather than letting the symbol go, the work lingers with it,
asking what it means to look again,
to shift understanding,
and to carry forward new meaning with care.
It invites quiet reflection on how symbols travel, change,
and how we participate in shaping the stories they continue to tell.
